This will be a virtual training held on zoom.

Nonprofits have an important role to play in shaping public policy by advocating to remove barriers for the people they serve. Policy change, even on a local level, can make a profound impact on our community. Join Joey, with KS Appleseed, to learn how to make systems and policy change in your community!

Participants will learn:

  • how to make systems and policy change in our communities within the legal framework for lobbying.
  • how to identify and build issue-based campaigns,
  • strategic communication
  • grassroots power building
  • Additional information will include how non-profits can engage in lobbying to achieve "upstream" changes.

501c3 organizations can and should lobby!

Joey (he/him) is Director of Advocacy at Kansas Appleseed. In this role, he lobbies in Topeka and supports campaigns across the Sunflower State on issues ranging from child nutrition programs, the 2020 Census, and criminal justice reform. Kansas Appleseed is a statewide advocacy organization dedicated to the belief that Kansans, working together, can build a more thriving, inclusive, and just Kansas.

This training is being offered without charge, in collaboration with KS Appleseed, for nonprofit staff, volunteers, board, and workers and community members.
