Allocations Panel

How Gifts to United Way are Distributed to Member Agencies:

Each year, 30 local volunteers give 840 hours to decide how gifts to the United Way should be used. They review agency budgets, community needs, make visits to agencies and talk with them about their programs. Thanks to the work of these volunteers, citizens can be assured that a wide variety of effective community services will be available to them and their neighbors. These same local volunteers make sure that member agencies are accountable. In order to receive funding, each agency must meet many requirements, including:

  • undergo an annual audit
  • continue not for profit organization status and 501(c) (3) designation with the IRS,
  • maintain a volunteer board of directors,
  • affirm that its programs are open to all eligible persons regardless of race, sex, religion, color, national origin, age, ancestry, disability, or sexual orientation,
  • show, through measuring outcomes, that its programs have a positive impact on the persons involved.
