Women’s Transitional Care Services recently served “Julia,” a woman in the community who was experiencing domestic abuse.  Julia’s emotionally & financially abusive husband would sabotage important tests she needed to take for her online courses to complete her bachelor’s degree. Her abuser is skilled with computers and would put a password on her laptop so she was unable to log on and do her schoolwork. Julia’s abuser would only give her the password if she finished an extensive list of chores and favors he had written out.  Once Julia contacted WTCS, an advocate met with her to discuss the safety of her and her children.  Together, they designed a safety plan for her to use when she felt it was safe to leave her abusive husband. She stayed at the WTCS safe shelter for a few weeks until she found her own apartment to move into. Throughout all of the legal proceedings resulting from the abuse, WTCS provided court advocacy so Julia would not be alone. Throughout all of the assistance, WTCS provided moral support and encouragement.  Julia is now able to continue her education and care for her children in a safe environment.
